Dental fillings are the most common and least expensive restorative option we offer. Did you know they can also be a cosmetic option? We offer tooth-colored, metal-free fillings that can restore both your functionality and appearance. Let our team at Gary Silva, DDS help you get the dental care you need.
Why You Might Need A Filling
You may need a filling for one reason and one reason only: you have a cavity. Cavities are small areas of decay that can occur on the surface and inside of your tooth. Cavities are caused by bacteria that consume sugar and create layers of plaque. This plaque hardens on your teeth and softens the enamel and dentin underneath, creating cavities. To prevent this from occurring, be cautious of consuming sugary snacks. Also, pay close attention to your oral home care habits — brush twice daily and floss at least once for optimum oral health.
How We Place A Filling
In order to place a tooth filling, we must first numb the area and prepare the tooth. This requires applying a local anesthetic, inspecting the area, cleaning the decay from the tooth, and adding an adhesive. Once the adhesive is ready to go, the composite resin material is flowed into the prepared area using a tiny injector. The filling is then packed into the area and smoothed out. We then use a special curing light to harden the resin material and create the final dental restoration. After it is hardened, we will polish the filling and check to make sure your bite is fine and everything is comfortable. You can then go on to enjoy your newly restored tooth.
In our office, we never use ugly amalgam fillings. Amalgam fillings are the old silver fillings of the past. They provided very little aesthetic appeal. Our office uses composite resin fillings to offer our patients the highest level of aesthetics possible. When you get a filling from us, no one will even be able to tell it is there!
In fact, our office offers all tooth-colored restorations. When we restore a tooth, we want it to look as natural as possible. That’s why we use composite materials or porcelain ceramics to get the job done. These materials allow us to most accurately match the color of your natural tooth for a very high level of aesthetic appeal. If you want durable restorations that offer natural-looking results, our team can help you out.
