LODI, CA – Dr. Gary Silva, a Lodi restorative dentist, has implemented new technology that will aid his practice in better diagnosing dental problems and planning treatments.
The new technology, a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanner, allows Dr. Silva and his team to take 3-D images of a patient’s oral cavity, teeth, jawbone and neck. The machine produces fast, precise results and omits low levels of radiation.
“This new technology is amazing and allows us to identify dental problems in a way like never before,” Dr. Silva said. “Most dental offices use either traditional X-rays or digital X-rays, and this new CBCT scanner far exceeds the capabilities of those units.”
Dr. Silva uses the CBCT scanner to precisely place implants. Dr. Silva has found that the CBCT scanner allows dentists to reduce recovery times and develop more comfortable procedures because they can map around blood vessels and nerves.
Dr. Silva recently implemented the CBCT scanner into his practice, and he said patients can better follow along with treatments based on the 3-D images.
“This is a substantial investment for our practice, but we believe in offering the best possible services for our patients,” Dr. Silva said. “They deserve treatments that are comfortable and withstand the test of time.”
Dr. Silva’s dental office provides state-of-the-art general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, gum disease treatment, extractions, short-term orthodontics and even full-mouth rehabilitations. He also places implants to replace missing teeth.
Dr. Silva has extensive training in CEREC same-day crown technology. CEREC uses CAD/CAM technology to design and place crowns in a single day. Typical dental offices place dental crowns in two or three visits, but with CEREC technology, Dr. Silva can place a crown in about 90 minutes. The CAD/CAM technology allows Dr. Silva to perfectly match the crown with the patient’s smile and provide a more precise fit than traditional crowns.
The Lodi dental office also provides two revolutionary short-term orthodontic solutions, Six Month Smiles and ClearCorrect. Six Month Smiles is a procedure that focuses on the visible teeth that need to be corrected, therefore greatly reducing total treatment time. Six Month Smiles uses tooth-colored brackets and wires, thereby minimizing any display of “braces.” ClearCorrect uses clear aligners to move the teeth into a better position. The ClearCorrect aligners are removable and virtually invisible.
Dr. Silva had ambitions of becoming a dentist at an early age. He earned his undergraduate degree from University of California, Davis, and then his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1990. After dental school, he was accepted into the University of California, San Francisco Advanced Education in General Dentistry program and completed his AEGD training in 1991.
In his nearly 25 years of practicing dentistry, Dr. Silva has worked with leading prosthodontists to study the art of dental restorations and cosmetic dentistry and trained in neuromuscular dentistry with world-renowned teachers at the Las Vegas Institute. Neuromuscular dentistry is the practice of correcting the function of the bite and jaw muscles to relieve issues like headaches and jaw pains (frequently referred to as TMJ).
